The fishery regions of the United States within the Pacific ocean can be further subdivided into three federal management regions:

The North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) manages the federal fisheries off of Alaska.

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) manages federal fisheries off the western coast of the contiguous United States, adjacent to the states of Washington, Oregon, and California.

The Western Pacific Fishery Management Council (WPFMC) manages the federal fisheries in the U.S. EEZ extending from the shores of the U.S. Pacific Island states and territories, a larger ocean area than any other fishery management council manages.

These federal management areas must also coordinate with state authorities (which generally have jurisdiction over waters from the coastline to three miles offshore) and native american interests (which have treaty rights) under the United States system of triadic federalism.
